Making The World Smaller Through Hip Hop
by Claire Wasserman

“To see them do something that I do professionally, I was in their shoes at one point.”
Lupe Fiasco’s recent collaboration with music educational organization, WORLD UP, highlights the nonprofit’s power of using music to show at-risk students a world beyond their neighborhood.

World Up is an organization that makes the world smaller through hip hop, education, and technology. Since 2004, they have been fostering diversity, cross-cultural understanding, and social change with educational programming and events, such as music festivals and conferences. World Up is currently developing a program to bring technology and music together, teaching students the skills to actualize a potential music career. World Up is run by a group of volunteers who come from diverse backgrounds and cultures but share a deep love for Hip-Hop and how it is used as a tool for social and political change. They have a well established and international network of artists, DJ´s, MC´s, Film makers, promoters, and activists.
